1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER ~ MARCH 27-31, 2017

Religion:  We will begin talking about Holy Week.
We will pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary all during Lent and pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet on Fridays.
Stations of the Cross are on Friday afternoons.
Saints of the Week:  Saints Perpetua and Felicity
OUR MASS IS THIS FRIDAY!!  PLEASE PRACTICE YOUR CHILD'S MASS PART WITH HIM/HER.  I HOPE YOU CAN COME!

Reading/English:  Unit 10:  Research to Build and Present Knowledge:  Write Research Reports
-skills:  draw pictures and use notes to compose a research report about rainforest animals, orally present a research report, including personal feelings about the topic and answering questions after the presentation, review unit 10, and continue with types of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory)


Spelling:  question words
-pretest Monday
-final test Friday
**Everyone will have the same list this week.**

Spelling Word List:
where, what, when, who, aren't, which, does, isn't, why, don't, could, would
 
Math:  Chapter 8:  Two-Digit Addition and Subtraction
-skills:  make ten to add, use place value to add, related addition and subtraction, chapter 8 test
 
Science:  How Plants and Animals Live
-talk about animals this week

Social Studies:  Economics
-discuss money, needs and wants

Notes from the Teacher:
-Don’t forget to send your items for our OCS Lenten Project. We are putting loving bags together to give to Foster Children who are suddenly displaced. Our goal is to fill 336 bags. If you are able to send in several items, it would be greatly appreciated! The deadline is this Friday, March 31.
K-1- Send in stuffed animals
2-3- Send in Crayons, Markers, and Coloring Books

-Our Mass is March 30.  Please practice Mass parts with your child.  Some of the readings for Lent can be difficult.  Thanks!

-There will be NO After School Program on the last day of school before SPRING Break-March 31.
Please let me  know how your child they will be getting home on Friday, March 31.

-skills:  read a student model, gather facts, use a chart, and organize the facts for inclusion in a research report about rainforest animals, and types of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory)

Spelling:  ly, ful words
-pretest Monday
-final test Friday

Notes from the Teacher:

-We are collecting new stuffed animals and dolls for children in foster care in Kentucky for a Lenten Service Project.  The donation deadline is March 31.  Thank you!

-Thank you to Sophia Merchant (and family) for donating 2 books from the book fair to our classroom!  We’re very excited!  Thanks, Sophia!

-Our Mass is March 30.  Mass parts were handed out this week.  Please practice these with your child.  Some of the readings for Lent can be difficult.  Thanks!
