1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER ~ MAY 1-5, 2017

Religion:  Chapter 14:  We Celebrate the Gift of the Holy Spirit
We will pray the Joyful Mysteries of the rosary this week.

Reading/English:  Unit 11:  Reading Informational Text:  Integration of Knowledge and Ideas
skills:  match text to corresponding visuals, main ideas, identifying author's opinions and the reasons given to support those opinions, categories

Last Day of School -Closing Mass- May 18- 9:00
We will have a special Closing Mass at 9:00 on the last day of school.  School is dismissed after the Service. If you are not attending, please pick your child up at school at 11:00. Please let me know how your child is getting home, especially if they are riding with someone else. We will not be using busses on the last day of school.  I sent a letter home last week with the information on it for you to send in.  Thank you!

We will Pray the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Saint of the Week:  St. Mark the Evangelist

Reading/English:  Research Project
Skills:  put final touches on the rainforest animals research project and put the report on ChatterPix, continue to define words by category and by one or more key attributes

Spelling:  review words

Reading/English:  Research Project
skills:  continue with the rainforest animal research project, collect facts, begin writing the rough draft and editing, define words by category and by one or more key attributes

Religion:  Holy week discussions and activities, washing of the feet, veneration of the cross, and Good Friday service 
We will pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Saint of the Week:  Saint Damien

Reading/English:  Research Project
skills:  Discuss the upcoming research project they will be doing. Children will pick an animal, conduct research, gather information, and practice note taking.  They will also seek peer feedback and revise their research reports. 
Continue discussion on the 4 types of sentences:  declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory.

Spelling:  ow words

-final test Friday
