1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER ~ JANUARY 9-13, 2017

Religion:  Unit 2 Review
We will pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary this week.
Saint of the Week:  St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

Reading/English:  reading informational text:  craft and structure
skills:  distinguish between information given in pictures and information given by words, long a, long o, and r-controlled vowels, prefixes and suffixes

Spelling:  r-controlled er, ir, ur words
-pretest Monday
-final test Friday

Spelling Word Lists:

List 1:  bird, burn, first, fur, girl, her, hurt, shirt, sir, were, visit, done

List 2:  bigger, thirst, church, burst, shirt, germ, let’s, that’s, we’ve, they’re, visit, done

Math:  Chapter 3:  Addition Strategies
skills:  use make a 10 to add, algebra - add 3 numbers, problem solving - use addition strategies

Science:  We will discuss nutrition and exercise this week.

Social Studies:  We will talk about Martin Luther King, Jr.

-WE ARE IN NEED OF SHOE BOXES AND/OR TISSUE BOXES FOR A FEBRUARY STEM PROJECT!  IF YOU HAVE ANY THAT YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO DONATE, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANK YOU!

-Please check your child's folder for a permission slip for grandparents to pick up their grandchildren.  It is going home Monday, January 9.  This paper must be filled out and returned to school in order for grandparents to pick them up.  Thanks!  :)

-There will be NO After School Program on February 5 after the Grandparents Program.

Due to the fact that in past years, we have had very few students stay in the After School Program on Grandparents Day, the After School Program will not operate on February 5. If your child will not be going home with a grandparent, please make other arrangements. If your child is going home with a grandparent or someone else, please let his /her teacher know. Thank You.

Feb. 3- 12:30- Grandparents program- Free DRESS UP Day- Dress in your “Sunday Best” for Grandparents!
Feb. 3- NO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM- Students may go home with grandparents after the program.
