1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER, FEBRUARY 29-MARCH 4, 2016

Religion:  Chapter 14:  We Celebrate the Gift of the Holy Spirit
We will pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary during Lent and pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Reading / English:  Dr. Seuss

 -We will be going to the RiverPark Center to see Peter Rabbit Monday, March 7, at approx. 11:15.  Since we will be gone during our regular lunch time we will be eating at 10:35 instead. 


-Registration for the 2016-2017 school year begins March 7 and runs through March 25. Registration, Voucher, and Registration Fee must be submitted in order to receive $50 towards tuition.

We will pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary during Lent and pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet weekly.
We pray the Stations of the Cross on Thursdays during Lent.
Saint of the Week:  Chair of Peter 

Reading/English:  Unit 8:  Text types and purposes:  write opinion pieces
-skills:  orally present their opinion papers to the class, conjunctions, review prepositions

Spelling:  ea words
-pretest Monday
-final test Friday

Notes from the Teacher:
 
 -We would like to thank the dental students who came to our room last Thursday to talk with the children about the importance of good dental hygiene.  It was a lot of fun and very informative!   Check SeeSaw for pictures!  

-Mrs. Krampe (school nurse) will talk to the children about the heart, bones, and muscles on Monday.

-We are practicing counting money (coins).  It would be very helpful if you worked with your child on counting various amounts of money at home. Thanks!

1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER ~ FEBRUARY 8-12, 2016

Religion:  We will discuss Lent this week.  We will pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary and pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet.  
Saint of the Week:  Our Lady of Lourdes

Reading:  All About Penguins unit continued
-skills:  penguin adaptations, life cycle of a penguin, types of penguins, penguins' needs,  and writing about penguins

Spelling:  Unit 3 Words
-Words will be passed out Monday.  All students will have the same list and be tested on Friday.  There will be 30 words.

Math:  Chapter 8:  Two Digit Addition and Subtraction
-skills:  add and subtract within 20, add tens, draw a model to add tens, subtract tens, draw a model to subtract tens.
 
Science:  We will continue our unit on penguins this week. 
-skills:  penguin adaptations, life cycle of a penguin, types of penguins, penguins' needs,  and writing about penguins

Social Studies:  Money / Coins
-identify quarters, dimes, nickels, pennies, and dollars

-Thank you for making Catholic Schools Week so meaningful for all of us last week.  It’s wonderful to celebrate our Catholic faith!
-We will exchange Valentines Friday.  Please see the note below.
Exchanging Valentine's cards is a favorite activity for elementary students. All students may bring in valentines to exchange on Friday, February 12. Due to our policy on snacking and food allergies, children are NOT allowed to bring in valentines with ANY type of candy attached to them or valentines that are packages of candy. There is no way to monitor and ensure that all candy brought in is on the safe snack list. IF your child brings cards with candy, we will have to send them back home. Thank you for helping us keep all of our children safe.
