1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER ~ AUGUST 31-SEPTEMBER 4, 2015

Religion:  We will discuss giving thanks to God.  We will pray the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary.  Saint of the Week:  St. Gregory the Great

Reading:  
-skills:  short o, distinguishing long and short vowels, inflected ending, narrative, realistic fiction, nonfiction
-Informative/Explanatory-importance of plant parts

Spelling:  short o words

- An AR Home Connect note was sent home last Friday.  It contained important information about how to sign up for AR communications.  Parents can see the progress the students are making. 

-There is still time to sign up for the Seesaw app if you have not signed up yet.  It’s a fun way to see things your child is doing at school.  The children love it!  J

Reading:  short i, final x, characters, setting, and main event in a story, fable, realism, and fantasy

Spelling:  short i words

-We will begin taking AR tests on Monday.  The tests can be a little tricky at times.  Please encourage your child to read their book twice before taking a test on it. This will help with comprehension.

1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER ~ AUGUST 17-21, 2015

Religion:  We will be talking about creation this week.  We will pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.

Reading:  Skills:  short a, final ck, character, setting, retell story, genre:  realistic fiction
We will be working on writing skills as well.

Spelling:  short a words
A pretest will be given on Monday.  If a 100% is achieved the child will be given List 2.

-final test Friday

Spelling Word Lists:

List 1:  at, can, cat, back, dad, am, bat, mad, ran, sack, way, on

List 2:   black, snack, quack, that, flat, band, grand, tram, scram, scramble, on, way

Math:  count and model numbers

Science:  review safety rules of home and school

Social Studies:  discuss responsibilities, personal belonging, and respect

- No birthday parties are permitted at the K-3 Campus. Due to the increase in food allergies, and in order to ensure the safety of all students absolutely NO food may be brought in for a child’s birthday. Birthday invitations are not to be brought to school and distributed unless all members of the same gender in the classroom are invited.


  All snacks brought to school, must be individually wrapped OR in an individual baggie. Students MAY NOT bring in snacks for anyone other than themselves. In order to protect all children with food allergies, we ask that parents refer to the www.snacksafely.com website to find nutritional and safe snacks. Please do NOT send in snacks with peanut butter or peanuts in them. Thank You!
