1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER ~ APRIL 18-22, 2016

Religion:  Chapter 17:  Jesus' Followers Become the Church
We will pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Saint of the Week:  Saint George

Reading/English:  Over the next 2 weeks we will be researching animals for a research project.  The children will choose an animal, research facts about their animal, and write a research report on their animal.  Then they will edit, rewrite, and present their projects to the class.

Spelling:  ow words
-pretest Monday
-final test Friday

-Our AR picnic is Friday, May 20.  Volunteers are needed to help supervise the children. The buses will pick the students up at 8:30 at the K-3 Campus and we will return to school at 1:00. Parents attending the picnic may check students out at the park by going to the First Aid Shelter and “signing” them out.  You will also need to reserve a lunch to eat.  A letter will be sent out Monday.  If you would like to go with us to the park, please fill out the form on the letter and return it to me.  Thank you in advance for your help! It should be a day of fun for everyone!  J

skills:  draw pictures, complete sentence starters, and use notes to compose a research report about rainforest animals, orally present a research report, review unit 10, simple and compound declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences

 -Thank you so much for the beautiful wind chimes and Miller House cards you gave me in memory of my mom.  That was very thoughtful of you.  My mom loved wind chimes.  This will be such a wonderful remembrance of her every time the wind blows.  I appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers sent my way as well.  This has been a very difficult time for me.  The children have given me so much strength!  Their sweet hugs and “I’m sorry about your mom” kind words have warmed my heart and kept me going!  I am truly blessed!  Thank you all very, very much!

          -I hope you had a wonderful and restful spring break!

Reading/English:  Unit 10:  Research to Build and Present Knowledge:  Write Research Reports
-skills:  read a student model about research reports on rainforest animals, listen to a read-aloud about rainforest animals in order to gather facts for use in writing a research report, recall facts about rainforest animals and, using a chart, organize the facts for inclusion in a research report, and sentences (simple and compound declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory)

Spelling:  -ly, -ful words

-final test Friday

-I would like to thank all of you for the prayers for my family and me during the illness and passing of my mom.  It’s been a very difficult time for me, and your prayers and kind words are very much appreciated!

-This is the week for Free Dress for students who sold World’s Finest Chocolate candy bars.  If you forget to wear free dress on Monday you may come out of uniform on Tuesday instead.

-April 1 is a FREE DRESS Day!

It is very important that you get your forms filled out ONLINE as soon as possible. If you did not receive an email with your infosnap code, please contact the central office.

-If your child will need After School Care, you will also sign up for this during ONLINE registration. This program fills up quickly, so don’t delay in signing up!

-Annual Holy Week Drive Sponsored by NHS at Owensboro Catholic High School-  Please bring in your donations between March 21- March 25. There will be boxes in the LOBBY at the K-3 Campus. DONATION SUGGESTIONS:
Paper Products- toilet paper, paper towels, aluminum foil, plastic wrap
Personal Products- razors, toothpaste, soap, toothbrushes, combs, deodorant

Food Items- canned goods of any kind, coffee, tea, canned fruit, sugar, flour, spices
