1ST GRADE NEWS - SEPTEMBER 1-5, 2014

Religion:  Chapter 3:  God's Word Teaches Us

-I am amazed at the way the children have taken to AR!  They’re really getting the points!  I’m very proud of them!  Please emphasize that they need to read the books carefully so they can answer the questions on the tests accurately.  When they rush reading the books and taking the tests it counts against them because it brings their average down.

-We will begin taking AR tests on Monday.  The tests can be a little tricky at times.  Please encourage your child to read their book twice before taking a test on it. This will help with comprehension.

-Owensboro Catholic Football Spirit Night and PTO Tailgate Party is scheduled for September 19th on the front lawn of Kentucky Wesleyan College.  Students may purchase Spirit Shirts to wear to the Tailgate Party. Orders are DUE by August 29th. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  Show your OC spirit, support the football team, and order a shirt today!

-No birthday parties are permitted at the K-3 Campus. Due to the increase in food allergies, and in order to ensure the safety of all students absolutely NO food may be brought in for a child’s birthday. Birthday invitations are not to be brought to school and distributed unless all members of the same gender in the classroom are invited.

 -All snacks brought to school, must be individually wrapped OR in an individual baggie. Students MAY NOT bring in snacks for anyone other than themselves. In order to protect all children with food allergies, we ask that parents refer to the www.snacksafely.com website to find nutritional and safe snacks. Please do NOT send in snacks with peanut butter or peanuts in them.

The first three days of school have gone very smoothly.  I'm enjoying learning all about the children and their families.   I expect this year will be lots of fun!  I look forward to seeing you on Curriculum Night Thursday!  :)

-May 30:  Free Dress Day/ Last Day Prayer Service- in Church at 10:30- STUDENTS MAY LEAVE WITH A PARENT AS SOON AS THE PRAYER SERVICE IS OVER.  IF YOU ARE NOT ATTENDING THE PRAYER SERVICE YOU MAY PICK UP YOUR CHILD AT 11:00.  THERE IS NO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM THIS DAY.


          I’ve had a wonderful school year with a great class!  It’s hard to believe it’s over.  I hope you have a blessed summer filled with family, friends, and fun times!  I’ll miss you all!   : )

AR PICNIC INFORMATION: 

-Wear “Faith in Education shirts” (new bright green with OC logo on the back preferred, but if you can’t find it, any of the older Faith in Ed. Shirts are fine) with “out of uniform” bottoms-shirts or jeans.
-Wear TENNIS SHOES.  No flip flops, sandals, or open back shoes.
-Apply sunscreen BEFORE leaving home.
-BRING TWO DRINKS – SPORTS DRINKS OR WATER WITH SCREW CAPS!!  PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD’S NAME ON BOTH DRINKS!  No sodas or cans.
-I would discourage the children from bringing play equipment because it may get lost or broken.

-PARENTS WHO PLAN ON CHECKING THEIR CHILD OUT AT THE PARK MUST SIGN THE CHILD OUT AT THE FIRST AID SHELTER.  PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THIS EARLY IN THE DAY, SO THAT WE DO NOT HAVE A LONG LINE WHEN IT IS TIME TO START LOADING BUSES.
