1ST GRADE NEWSLETTER ~ SEPTEMBER 26-30, 2016

Religion: Chapter 4: We Give Praise to God
We will pray the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary this week.
Saint of the Week: Archangels: Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel
Our Mass is November 17 at 9:00. We hope you can make it!

Language Arts:
-skills: reading informational text-key ideas and details, identify and write plural forms of nouns

Spelling: digraph sh and th words
-pretest-Monday
-final test- Thursday this week

Notes from the Teacher:

-The children are progressing nicely in school! I am amazed at how fast they are learning so many new things. Several children have already earned 10 AR points and have gotten stickers on their stars and a few prizes from the prize box. Wow! If you think your child is feeling uncomfortable about taking AR tests, feel free to drop in the classroom any morning (7:30-7:50) and sit beside them while they take the test. A lot of the time all they need is a little encouragement. :)

-I am enjoying teaching these children so much! They are really a fun group of kiddos and their smiles are contagious! I feel very blessed!

Sept. 29- 9:00- Mass / Students who purchased a spirit shirt from the OCHS football team may wear their shirt to school WITH uniform bottoms to support the ACES football team.

Sept. 30- NO SCHOOL / 5:30-PTO Tailgate Party at OCHS

-We had our first lock down drill last Friday. It went very well. The children did a great job!

-Please help your child practice his/her “one breath boxes.” These are very important for reading fluency.

Your child should be bringing those in every week by Friday. If he/she knows them fluently before then, please have him/her bring them in earlier in the week. That way I can test them on their words and can give them a new list to practice on. Thank you!

-Please also encourage your child to keep reading for AR and taking tests. Many of the children have taken several tests. I can see their confidence building every day! I am amazed when they show me their results on the iPad and tell me how many tests they’ve taken. They are so proud!
